seo question

Hi

can anyone tell me - if i have content stored in a database and its being displayed in GRIDVIEW on front page of website (like news) - is that content being picked up by bots/search engines etc?

cheers

Probably. :)

It will be read by any SEO that spiders your site, since the spider reads rendered output. But, if the user needs to select parameters to display the content, such as in a search, it may not get spidered.

SEO doesn't depend on ASP.NET, so you won't find much on this site to help you. Try Google, there's a ton of information out there.

Serious rendering performance issue with ASP.NET 2.0

I have no idea why, but since I'm trying to recreate my website using
ASP.NET 2.0 I've encountered so many performance issues that I'm about to
give up and continue using v1.1
Seriously, how can a page that is not that complicated be so long to render
locally, it's amazing.
This is the trace info:
aspx.page Begin PreInit
aspx.page End PreInit 0.0463518812157079 0.046352
aspx.page Begin Init 0.0464098005002422 0.000058
aspx.page End Init 0.0507724654507819 0.004363
aspx.page Begin InitComplete 0.0508315524093228 0.000059
aspx.page End InitComplete 0.0508603382273912 0.000029
aspx.page Begin PreLoad 0.050883245868358 0.000023
aspx.page End PreLoad 0.053195331957778 0.002312

aspx.page End Render 21.8912725576705 16.260754
22 seconds to load a page showing up a profile & some comments, very small
pages, it's seriously unacceptable, and that is while running in debug on my
local machine (a p4 3 GHz very well equiped), it's even slower on the
website.
It seems every time I use a GridView or a Repeater, I have the same
partner.. I just recoded by forum interface using VS.NET 2005 and it's so
slow that I can't even use it.. loading a thread page takes up to 1 minute
while in ASP.NET 1.1 it can take up to 5 seconds.
Anybody knows why rendering is so slow? I was starting to believe it was
because of my VS.NET' but since the code is also executed on a remote
server, it can't be my VS.NET...
I'm running out of options here... serious problem as it's taking up all the
resources of my Windows 2003 Server.
Thank you.
P/S: Level 1 to 5 is the queries to the database and databinding, which
isn't even why it's slow.Spotnick,
Sorry your new page is running slow. Easier than porting try to use your
1.1 dll and just reference it on your 2.0 web application untill the
overseers can fix the performance issues.
Good Luck

And I use Enterprise Library latest version, binding the controls with
datatables from strongly-typed datasets.

I have windows 2003 server installed on my machine.

Cant theASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0 Co-exist?
If yes then how can i solve the above error...

I have the same configuration.
Well, they can coexist, try to restart the IIS and use the (regiis -i) from the command line in the 2.0 Framework directory.
Tell us then what happens.

Hi,
In IIS i right click on website and then goto ASP.NET where i changed the version from ASP.NET 2.0 to ASP.NET 1.1 and after that its giving me that error ...but if i changed to asp.net 2.0 then it working fine...but before installing asp.net 2.0 it was working fine with asp.net 1.1 what could be the reason?

server application unavailable

Hi,

I created an asp.net 2.0 website with VWD and made it an application in IIS.
It was created on a ntfs disc (my documents...). The directory permissions
are set on 'anonymous allowed' using IUSR_MYSERVER, which has read/list
permissions to the apllication directory.

When i start it from the browser, i get this error:

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific
request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server.
Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

The application event log tells this:

Failed to execute the request because the ASP.NET process identity does not
have read permissions to the global assembly cache. Error: 0x80070005 Access
is denied.

and this:

Failed to initialize the AppDomain:/LM/W3SVC/1/Root/testfromc

Exception: System.IO.FileLoadException

Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0,

CasperIUSR_MYSERVER is not the usual identity ASP.NET runs as.

If you're running on Windows XP, the account which needs permissions is
MACHINENAME\ASPNET...even if you're allowing anonymous access.

If you're running on Windows Server 2003, the account which needs permissions is
MACHINENAME\NETWORK SERVICE...even if you're allowing anonymous access.

Try granting access permissions to the appropiate account, as outlined above.

If you are still having problems after that, and you're impersonating some account,
save this code as "identity.aspx" and run it :

identity.aspx
========

<%@. Page Language="VB" %>
<%@. Import NameSpace = System.Security.Principal %>
<script runat="server">
Sub Page_Load()
Dim tmp As String = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.Name()
Label1.Text = tmp
End Sub
</script>
<html>
<head>
<title>WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.Name()</title>
</head>
<body>
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<div>
<asp:Label ID="Label1" Runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label>
</div>
</form>
</body>
</html>
======

That will tell you what the current account ASP.NET is running as.
Then, assign the appropiate permissions to that account.

Hi, thanks for replying.

I'm running on windows 2000 sp4 and it's also the domain-controller. I ran
your identity.aspx and it tells me that the current account ASP.NET is
running as IWAM_myserver.
So i granted it the permissions and it works.

Strange, because i can read in directory security of IIS: username (for
anonymous access) is IUSR_myserver. And more, in my list of accounts, the
only new accounts i have after installing asp.net are three sqlserver2005
accounts, but no asp or netwoek service...

Running a web server on a domain controller is a very
unusual situation because it opens up security considerations.

You should, generally, avoid running a web server on a domain controller.

If you do, you should create a weaker account to run the webserver as.

Read : "How To: Create a Custom Account to Run ASP.NET 1.1"
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../secnetht01.asp

The instructions are, basically, the same as for ASP.NET 2.0...

You might also want to read "How To Create a Service Account for an ASP.NET 2.0 Application"

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...paght000009.asp

Although the instructions are for Windows Server 2003, just disregard the
instructions regarding the Application Pools. The rest is the same for both OS's.

re:
> So i granted it the permissions and it works.

Glad that you're running again !

However, you should either

1. not run the web server in your domain controller
2. if that's impossible, create a weaker account per the instructions above.

Good luck!
